Medication Compliance in Elderly :: essays research papers
Running Head: Enhancing Medication Compliance in Elderly Individuals Research Utilization Paper An Intervention Study to Enhance Medication Compliance in Community-Dwelling Elderly Individuals Chris Elmer HSCI 401 Fall 2001 My research study was to determine whether daily videotelephone or regular telephone reminders would increase the quantity of prescribed cardiac medication taken in a sample of elderly individuals who have congestive heart failure (CHF) (Peteva, 2001). Within this research I would disseminate the new scientific knowledge with the help of the pharmaceutical company that makes the congestive heart failure medication. With the help and support of the pharmaceutical maker, I would provide a full in-service to the nursing staff of hospitals and doctorââ¬â¢s offices alike. In doing this, this would provide a friendly and educational atmosphere in a nursing practice setting to get complete understanding of the research findings and how they as nurses can make a difference in the consumption of prescribed medication. Secondly, I would write a journal article and have it published in the pharmaceuticalââ¬â¢s bulletin to include a well-known nursing journal. These journal articles would contain the findings of the research and suggestions on how the nursing staff can help the patients improve the compliance of taking prescribed medication. Once the information is disseminated into the medical public, the nurses will apply the learned knowledge to their practice for the elderly patients who are taking congestive heart failure medication. First, the nurse will collect all the patients that are currently taking congestive heart failure medication and explain to them on a one-on-one basis the benefits of having reminders to comply with taking prescribed medications. Then nurse would also explain the pros and cons of the reminders and that the videotelephone reminders would be provided at no cost to the patient. If the patient agrees to utilize the videotelephone reminder, the patient would sign a patient confidentiality agreement and liability agreement for legal reasons. What the agreements would stand for is a ââ¬Å"need to know basis,â⬠meaning that the patients information is strictly confidential and those who are on a need to know basis would have access to the patients information. The liability agreement is s o that the patient could not sue the pharmaceutical company or the medical facility where they are being treated if a complaint involved only the videotelephone reminder program. Once the videotelephone reminder program is implemented the pharmaceutical company and myself would provide quarterly visits to the medical site to collect data on the progress of the program.
A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream Essay: Love and Marriage -- Midsummer Night
Love and Marriage in A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dreamà à à There is something to be said for the passionate love of young people, and Shakespeare said it in Romeo and Juliet. The belief that any action can be excused if one follows one's feelings is a sentimental notion that is not endorsed by Shakespeare. Thus, Theseus' suggestion in 1.1 of A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream, that Hermia marry a man she does not love rather than "live a barren sister" all her life would seem perfectly sensible to Shakespeareââ¬â¢s contemporaries. à Shakespeare writes for a public who views marriage unsentimentally. At all levels of society, from king to commoner, marriage is entered into for commercial and dynastic reasons. People marry to increase their property and to secure its inheritance. Wise parents, who may dispose of their children in marriage, will of course try to avoid matches which the contracting parties find intolerable, but there are limits to this. On the other hand, children have a duty of obedience. And the husband Egeus proposes for Hermia is by no means unattractive; his chief defect is that he is not Lysander, whom Hermia loves, perhaps intemperately. à The play shows how the ideal relationship is that in which the affections and the reasonable mind are both in harmony. At the start of the play, both Demetrius and Helena are clearly at fault. Demetrius has allowed his love for Helena to abate; she, by fawning on him, is guilty of doting, which exacerbates his dislike. An honourable man would stand by his promise and try to re-discover his love for Helena, and it is this which draws Lysander's taunt that Demetrius is "spotted and inconstant". In time, perhaps, Demetrius might reconsider Helena's merits, but in the brief ti... ...up with mud", for example; we learn of "the farthest steep of India", of Oberon's various favorites. à Against the beautiful lyric and exotic account of the changeling's pregnant mother we have the homely jollity of Puck's pranks on the "fat and bean-fed horse" or "wisest aunt". Oberon gives us many set-piece descriptions: of the "bank whereon the wild thyme blows", of the "fair vestal" whom Cupid's bolt failed to hit, and of Titania's "seeking sweet favours for this hateful fool" (Bottom), among others. Here Shakespeare shows us what can be done "in this kind", lest the failure of Pyramus and Thisbe lead us to the conclusion that the theatre can only depict what can literally be brought on stage. Cost Cutting Essay
Most of us spend more than we need to for a lot of things. If you really can afford luxuries such as gourmet teas or designer clothing and still save for your future, youââ¬â¢re lucky. However, if youââ¬â¢re struggling to meet the financial goals youââ¬â¢ve set on your retirement roadmap, itââ¬â¢s time to look for ways to cut expensesââ¬âdaily, monthly, and long-term. Start by seeing if youââ¬â¢d benefit from either of these big cost-cutting strategies: â⬠¢If youââ¬â¢re paying high interest on a mortgage and you plan to stay in your home for a few years, consider refinancing.à Be sure to do your home- work to avoid closing costs that might make the move less attractive financially. â⬠¢Reduce your credit card debt. Call the bank and try to negotiate lower finance charges. Then pay down the debt as fast as you can, starting with the high-interest debt. (See AARPââ¬â¢s Tip Sheet, ââ¬Å"Managing Debt. â⬠) Itââ¬â¢s easy to spend money without realizing how much it adds up to over a week, a month or a year. So, to make other cuts in your expenses, try reviewing what habits, like eating lunch in a restaurant every day or buying expensive clothes, can add up to in the course of a year. Here are some places to look for cuts. Meals and Entertainment Americans love to eat out, whether itââ¬â¢s a daily break- fast at a pricey coffee shop or fast-food dinners when you feel too tired to cook. Keep track of where youââ¬â¢re eating your meals and what they cost. Bringing your lunch to work and cooking your meals for dinner are good ways to reduce food expenses on a regular basis. Movie fans can save money by renting DVDs, instead of paying admission to the theater and eating that expensive popcorn. Household and Transportation Expensesà Cable television, phone serviceââ¬âincluding your cell phoneââ¬â and Internet service can add up to a tidy sum every month. Make sure you have the most economical plans available. If youââ¬â¢re in an area with more than one provider, comparison-shop. Energy costs are climbing and will probably continue to do so. Do an energy review of your home. Plug up drafty windows and doors with weather-stripping, insulate them with blinds or curtains, and then turn down the winter temperature inside by a couple of degrees. Consider solar heating and cooling if itââ¬â¢s feasible where you live. If you have central air, try to use it less. Install ceiling fans in some rooms, so you donââ¬â¢t have to cool the entire house. During the summer months, avoid using the clothes dryer, dishwasher, etc. during peak hours to lower your energy bill. Your biggest transportation expenses probably come from one or more vehicles. Here are some ways to cut back on those costs: â⬠¢Car-pool to work with neighbors or colleagues. â⬠¢Use public transportation. â⬠¢Talk to your insurance company about ways you can lower your rate. On the highway, save money on gas by driving 55 miles per hour instead of faster. Shopping Thoughtful planning, before you shop, is a good way to reduce expensive impulse buying. Whether youââ¬â¢re going to the grocery store, shopping for holiday gifts, or looking for a new pair of shoes or a party outfit, make a list and decide what you can afford to spend ahead of timeââ¬âand donââ¬â¢t buy something unless you really need it. In the supermarket, read the unit prices: is it cheaper to buy a 16-ounce box of crackers for $3. 0, or 12 ounces for $3. 10? For larger expenses such as a winter coat or a washing machine, check prices at more than one store before you make a decision. You should also check out thrift shops, especially if you know of one in an upscale neighborhood where you might get some good bargains. For Internet purchases, in addition to comparison-shopping on prices, check shipping charges. Some sites make you pay the whole cost; others will offer a deal to entice you to buy from them.

NA Meeting paper
Before I attended the NA meet, I had felt more than a piffling apprehensive I real wasnt quite sure what to yield from the meeting and that made me precise nervous. I occupy talked to and listened to cranks and convalescent addicts many generation onwards, my familiar is a retrieve addict and a few friends be also, solely that did not prepare me for the sadness, grief, and happiness I saw in this meeting. The meeting started expose with the person running it starting things sullen, and thusly asked if anyone wanted to share anything. There were around seven commonwealth in the meeting not including myself, and they all share their stories and what was way out on with them. I found their stories and keep events uplifting and interesting to hear about, and I was proud of them for everything they accept survived and made it through. When I think about the meeting and everything express in it, it sincerely touches my heart how the mickle were able to overcome the o bstacle of dependency and better themselves by kicking the habit.I was brought to tears by one mans story, he told of how he had lost his wife and glowering to drugs to numb the pain and grief, but unhappily became addicted. He went on to share how he lost everything in his life before it rightfully hit him that he had to switch something, and he entered a rehabilitation center, got off the drugs, and today was his 1,826 th day of being clean (thats five years). What I learned at the meeting, well real what I learned from the people who shared their journey, was more than I could ever position into words, it had such a great on me, and I am sure it allow ever be with me. I purport like I have about learned some of the difficulties that these people have experienced in their life, I dresst mean to say I knew nothing of it before, but it is different interview from people other than your brother. From what I hear in the meeting I really pure tone that I understand my bro ther and what he went through more clear now.My perceptions about drug users didnt really change, I already knew that drug users are just normal everyday people like you or me, they just have a problem, or addiction with drugs. I know how hard it is for people to be on drugs, and to be a recovering addict. When my brother got into and was addicted to Meth, it made him a completely different person, he was always agitated, mad, didnt work, and he became violent with little to no provocation, and it was only ever toward me. without delay that my brother is recovering and has been a recovering addict for going on triple years, he has pretty much do a three-sixty he has a regular(a) full time job with benefits, doesnt do drugs anymore, and has no violent tendencies. Overall, I really enjoyed and found the stories interesting, and like that I was able to really hear what they were locution and somewhat relate to what they were saying. I feel that I have learned a lot and I am very g lad that I had the opportunity to go and have them share their stories with me.
